Cross Town Schools
While Air Force ROTC Detachment 485 is hosted at Rutgers University - New Brunswick, we also accept students from the following 10 crosstown schools:
- DeVry University, North Brunswick
- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst)
- Embry-Riddle’s McGuire location is a recognized crosstown partner of Detachment 485 and allows enlisted servicemembers enrolled at Embry-Riddle to participate in the AFROTC program, paving the way to becoming commissioned officers in the U.S. Air Force or Space Force.
- Monmouth University
- Monmouth University and Rutgers University have an agreement permitting students at Monmouth University to cross-enroll in AFROTC program at Rutgers University. Monmouth students must complete a “Permission to Take Courses” e-FORM prior to taking classes at Rutgers in order to have the ROTC credits apply toward degree requirements.
- Princeton University
- Princetonians have commissioned into the U.S. Air Force since its founding shortly after World War II, when the unit would drill behind Nassau Hall. Since then, Princeton graduates have pursued distinguished careers as fighter pilots, navigators, intelligence officers, logisticians, and more. With the creation of the U.S. Space Force in 2019, Det 485 will soon commission the first Space Force Princetonians as well.
- Princeton University also provides free vehicle rentals and ride-share passes for transport to and from training, and training events occur at both Rutgers and Princeton each semester.

Crosstown students will enroll as visiting students at Rutgers - New Brunswick in order to enroll in Aerospace Studies class and Leadership Laboratory. Community college students will be expected to transfer to a four year university/college to complete their undergraduate degrees.
Rutgers University - Newark has a crosstown agreement with The New Jersey Institute of Technology—Det 490. Typically, this means you’ll be enrolled as a full time student at Rutgers University - Newark and take your ROTC classes each week at The New Jersey Institute of Technology—Det 490.
Rutgers University - Camden has a crosstown agreement with Saint Joseph’s University—Det 750. Typically, this means you’ll be enrolled as a full time student at Rutgers University - Camden and take your ROTC classes each week at Saint Joseph’s University—Det 750.
